The Seattle University Student Health Insurance Plan benefits have been modified to be in compliance with the Health Care Reform regulations and requirements for the 2014-2015 policy year. Some of the benefit changes include increasing the benefit maximum to Unlimited per policy year, removing the Prescription benefit limitation, adding preventative services benefit to be paid at 100% at an in Network level, etc. Please be advised that these required benefit enhancements resulted in the increase of the insurance cost. If you have any questions, please contact the University’s student insurance broker and plan administrator, Wells Fargo Insurance, by calling toll-free 1-800-853-5899, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Pacific).
Seattle University requires all full-time (enrolled in 12 or more credits) undergraduates to have health insurance. All full-time undergraduate students will automatically be enrolled in the Seattle University Student Health Insurance Plan. The annual (September 1, 2014 – August 31, 2015) premium will be billed to the student's account in the first full-time quarter of the year and will automatically be renewed annually while the student remains enrolled at Seattle University as a full-time student. Students who enter in winter or spring quarters will pay a prorated premium for the Winter/Spring/Summer and Spring/Summer insurance terms respectively.
Please note, if you have your own health insurance plan with comparable coverage and would like to remove the health insurance charge from your account, you must submit an online waiver (link below) by the last day to add/drop courses in the student’s first full time quarter. If you do not submit an online waiver, you will be responsible for paying the entire health insurance cost.
Waivers must be submitted each new academic year to avoid being charged the student health insurance fee.
Waivers must be submitted online only, no paper, mail-in, fax-in, or call-in waivers are allowed. No late waivers or exceptions will be accepted after the deadline date.
Important! Your health insurance plan needs to meet University minimum requirements in order for you to be granted an insurance waiver. If your plan does not meet the minimum criteria, your waiver will be denied and you’ll be responsible for the full insurance premium. You’ll know if your insurance plan has met the minimum criteria after you have submitted your online waiver: a “Waiver Accepted” or “Waiver Denied” message will be displayed immediately following your waiver submission.
